We’re thrilled to announce a high in demand ITAR-compliant edition of our modern CAE SaaS platform. ITAR, or International Traffic in Arms Regulations, is a vital United States regulation governing the production, sale, and distribution of defense and space-related goods and services outlined in the United States Munitions List (USML).
The primary objective of ITAR is to safeguard defense-related assets, documentation, and data from potential misuse, ensuring they aren’t exploited for criminal or terrorist activities. Essentially, ITAR plays a pivotal role in protecting both U.S. national security and its foreign policy objectives, serving as a shield against potential threats from adversaries.
Given our role as a software provider to organizations bound by ITAR compliance, we’ve made it our responsibility to adhere to these stringent regulations. Luminary Cloud potentially handles technical data encompassing various categories listed on the USML, spanning from ground vehicles and aircraft to rockets and gas turbine engines.
To uphold our commitment to ITAR compliance, Luminary Cloud has implemented a robust program to track, monitor, and audit technical ITAR data. The Luminary Cloud ITAR Edition encompasses all the features of our Enterprise Edition, with additional benefits tailored for ITAR compliance:
Compliance without performance compromise
- Separate high security cluster from the standard non-ITAR environment
- All product dependencies are ITAR compliant
Encryption and data residency
- All sensitive metadata encrypted over data in-transit and at rest
- Data residency only in the U.S.
Enhanced support processes
- Supported by a technical team of U.S. persons adhering to strict compliant protocols
The ITAR Edition leverages Google Assured Workloads, a secure environment and infrastructure that is purely supported by U.S. persons. Google Assured Workloads allows ITAR customers to run and scale regulated workloads across the most extensive data center footprint available for ITAR-compliant workloads. Features in Assured Workloads such as data residency, cryptographic controls, Assured Support, and Assured Workloads Monitoring provide regulated customers with a full suite of features needed to manage the lifecycle of regulated workloads.

Non-compliance with ITAR regulations carries significant penalties, including civil fines exceeding $1 million per violation and the potential for criminal fines of up to $1 million per violation or 20 years of imprisonment, or both. Recent cases involving industry giants like Boeing and 3D Systems underscore the critical importance of adhering to ITAR regulations. In early 2024, Boeing reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of State to pay a $51 million civil penalty and last year 3DS was fined a $20 million civil penalty.
For organizations managing both ITAR and non-ITAR projects, Luminary Cloud offers the flexibility to maintain separate accounts tailored to each requirement.
We are thankful for the advice and cloud security expertise of ScaleSec, helping us to navigate ITAR regulations and build a program to meet long-term compliance goals.
